Interview With My Host Mother, Zubida

Introduction:

While I am studying in Morocco, I am living with a host family in an apartment in Rabat. When I first got here, I was really scared that the host family would be mean, or at least that I wouldn't get along with them, but upon meeting my host mother Zubida, all my fears went away. Zubida is a stay at home mother and a wonderful person, not to mention, a great cook. She helps me with my homework and helps me learn the Arabic language! I decided to interview her so you can learn a little bit more about Morrocan women.

What is your full name?:

Zubida Abitbol

Where do you live? What is your house like?:

I live in Rabat, Morocco in the neighborhood of Agdal. Agdal is the downtown area of Rabat and we live in a three-room apartment. My apartment is above the tram station so it makes it easy to get all around town from my house.

What is your family like?:

My family includes my husband, Abdul, and my two sons, Yaseen and Yuseff. My husband is a retired electrical engineer, my son Yuseff is a French teacher and my son Yaseen works at the mall. While my sons are grown, they continue to live with me which is very common in Morocco. If you are unmarried, you most likely still live with your parents, which is different than in America.
