The Story of a Tree

Introduction:

There’s an incredible tree growing right outside my window. Its leaves are dark army green, and it boasts orange flowers. The flowers often fall to the ground and litter the streets with red or orange colors. I’ve been curious about this tree and its origins. I’ve learned it is called a Nandi flame tree or African tulip tree.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

This is a tall green tree that has bright orange or red flowers. The leaves are quite large and the flowers are called "campanulate" flowers.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

When I first saw this tree, I was on the metro, and I saw a grouping of the trees together. I was struck by the contrast of the reddish-orange and the green and the sheer size of the tree.

Where does it live?:

Do you know what native species are as opposed non-native species? A native species is one that originally comes from the place in which it is found. A non-native species means that it was introduced at some point and brought from some other place. This Nandi flame tree is a non-native species in India because it comes from the tropical dry forests of Africa. However, the tree has found a way to flourish in the Garden City of India, Bangalore, because the seeds were brought here sometime in the 1880s.
