Say Cheese!

Introduction:

On Sundays there is a large farmers' market at a square called Planpalais, where vendors come to Geneva from the surrounding area in Switzerland, France and Italy to sell a wide variety of foods. Before Covid-19, I got most of my food for the week at this farmers' market. There are the types of stalls I expect to see at a farmers' market, such as those selling vegetables, fruits and baked goods. There are also stalls selling things I didn’t expect to find at a farmers' market. For instance, there is a stand with just wine and olive oil, and another one selling handmade pasta of all kinds. And one (my favorite!) displaying giant wooden bowls of pickled everything - pickled mushrooms, pickled garlic and (get this!)...pickled octopus! And the market also has food trucks with Tibetan dumplings, Turkish flatbread and chickens roasting on spits with fried potatoes. In the fall, most vegetable stands sold different kinds of wild mushrooms which had been gathered in the forests near Geneva. Mmm! If you are into good, fresh and local food, then Geneva is the place for you!

What food did I try?:

When I am in Geneva I make most of my own food because my mom is a chef and my dad is a baker, so I like cooking! And on the weekends I usually get a croissant and a coffee at one of the many sidewalk cafes in the city.
