It helps me feel closer to home, and Spanish also sounds a lot like Italian. Listening to it lets me practice a little.
Sundays are usually family days for my family. This Sunday we went to the Parma Marathon to watch some family friends run. Sadly, my host brother was not able to run, but there were plenty of people we knew to cheer on. After that we ate leftovers from the dinner I made them as it was a Peruvian dish. Then we went to my brother’s soccer game. We caught the last 15 minutes of the best game ever. The coach was yelling at the players and there were plenty of dirty moves, people on the ground and Italian curse words. I have never laughed harder. After the game, we came home with all his friends to eat homemade pizza and roasted chestnuts.
I was given multiple articles and books about immigration, all in Italian. It has been good practice for my Italian. It has also been interesting to learn more about the topic I am researching. Parma has very interesting policies and support programs. Together, they create a strong community and support system.
I have been able to play a lot of soccer. I also run twice a week. And I am starting to play water polo with an Italian professional team.
There have been many protests around Europe this week, mostly led by young people. They spread across France, Albania, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Belgium and Greece. Adults and unions have joined in to support them. The main issues are rising fuel costs, bad conditions in schools, declining public services and a housing crisis.
