I got to visit Oxapampa, which was settled by a group a of German colonists in the 19th century. They have a lot of good sausage and cheese there, so I made myself a breakfast sandwich with some toasted bread, poached eggs, sausage and colby jack cheese.

What music did I listen to this week?:

I listen to a lot of American music on my iPod, which is nice because I can have it downloaded directly to my device and not need a cell signal to listen to it. At the events I go to that are hosted by Peruvians, they usually play salsa or chicha music, a type of cumbia very common in Peru, with some of my favorite songs taking heavy influence from psychedelic rock from the United States.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I got to search for frogs in a river outside of the city with my summer camp program. It is themed around scouting, so we go into the campo a lot. One of the groups I work with is the Denver Zoo, who has an office in Junín to help study and protect the giant frogs and flamingos, among other animals. My students and I got to enter the water in waders with nets and try to catch them. Unfortunately we only caught one frog, but also caught a bunch of fish and small invertabrates.

What did I read this week?:

I have been reading a science fiction book in English called The Book of the New Sun. It follows Severian, an executioner who is exiled from his home in the far future. It technically takes place in South America, which is why I thought it would be good to bring to Peru. The wifi isn't the best here, and since it is summer break in Peru, I have a good amount of free time, so I have been reading a lot.
