Our News

I have also been working my way through a collection of Spanish short stories by Argentinian author Jorge Luis Borges, but it is a lot harder than I expected. Short stories make it easier to read in chunks though.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

Unfortunately, my family doesn't play a lot of games or sports, and the one big sport here, fútbol, I am not very good at nor do I enjoy very much. I played a bit of volleyball and basketball which are also very popular here in Junín. Most games and competitive sports played amongst adults involve gambling here, so I try to avoid them.

Other news from this week:

I was invited to a party to celebrate when the three kings arrived to greet baby Jesus with my socios in SERNANP, which is like the forest service/EPA here in Peru. Every family has a different day for it, so it is possible to go to many of these throughout the months between Christmas and Ash Wednesday. We took the figures from the nativity scene they set out and put them in a box for next year, and wrote our wishes for the new year on the papers we wrapped them in. It was interesting to see how the Catholic traditions I experienced growing up differ from the ones in Peru.
