What main languages are spoken here?:

The main language spoken here is castellano, or Spanish, as many people refer to the language here in Peru. The name comes from Castillian, a region in Spain where the Spanish language originates. Some people also speak Quechua, the language spoken by the Incans long before the Spanish got here. However, it is not as common here as in other parts of Peru. In my family, my mother speaks it, but none of the siblings or nieces do.

What type of money is used here?:

The common currency is the Peruvian Peso which is equal to about $0.33. The nice thing I noticed with the coins is that they all come labeled with how much each is worth, unlike American coins which don't have any numbers on them at all. The paper money has amounts like American dollars, and are also adorned with national heroes and former presidents, as well as Catholic imagery like the Virgin Mary.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A liter of water is about S/‎3, or $1. This is a pretty common purchase for me here, because the water that comes out of the faucet is not drinkable without boiling it first. Most Peruvians also don't drink as much water compared to Americans, prefering other drinks such as tea, coffee, soda or Gatorade.

What was the best meal this week?:

The best meal I had this week was one I made myself!
