My Citi Local Host Meeting

Introduction:

I was offered an opportunity to join the Citi Local Host Program through Reach the World. I had the chance to sit down with two Citi employees in Shanghai and talk to them about their lives, opinions and what they do at the global banking corporation.

In China, a person writes their family name first, followed by their given name - the opposite of how we usually write our names in the United States. Therefore, the global mentors I met with, Fu Zhu and Chen Huanwei, could go by "Mr. Fu" and "Ms. Chen" or just by their first names "Zhu" and "Huanwei". There are so many things you can find out by talking to people!

It was so interesting to hear the perspectives of two people who have a different background and more wisdom than me. I am excited to share some of what we talked about with you all. They were so kind to take time out of their busy day to help us know more about living and working in China.

What is your full name?:

Huanwei: My full name is Chen Huanwei. My father told me my first name means "start small but think big".

Zhu: My full name is Fu Zhu. My name means "helping others".

Where do you live? What is your house like?:

Huanwei: I live in an apartment that is either a 30-minute walk or a short metro ride away. It is a small, one-bedroom apartment. It is expensive to live in this part of the city!
