Hello, and welcome to my journey to Bangalore, India!
I am Ross Hunnicutt, a senior civil engineering student at the University of Washington. Civil engineers design and build systems such as roads, bridges, landfills, sewers and water supply systems. They also maintain these systems to prepare for disasters, population growth and climate change.
I grew up in Snohomish, Washington. After I graduated high school, I worked on farms before going to community college. I transferred from Whatcom Community College to the University of Washington in September 2019. I am finishing college and preparing to work on big construction projects after graduation.
I am in Bangalore, India from January 4 until March 15. The weather is a lot warmer than back in Seattle. It is 70 degrees tonight while I am writing this! I am here with 26 other UW students learning about water scarcity, garbage collection problems, road safety and more! I will share what I learn with you, like where water comes from here in Bangalore, as well as what problems this city of 10 million people is facing. That's ten times as many people as Seattle!
Thanks for reading and I look forward to sharing more soon!
