Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

Thai language is the most common language spoken in Chiang Mai. But many people can also speak English or Karen. Karen is a language spoken by the Karen people, a group native to Thailand. In school, I learn to speak, read and write Thai, and this has been my favorite class. That reminds me: it's time to teach you how to say another phrase. As you might remember, "hello" and "goodbye" in Thai are both Sa-wat-dee. To say your name, you say chew + your name. So to say "Hello, my name is Margaret," I say "Sa-wat-dee. Chew Margaret." How about you give it a try?

What type of money is used here?:

Thai money is called the baht. Baht can come in coins or paper bills like American money. The bills of baht have pictures of the King of Thailand. His name is very long, it's Maha Vajiralongkorn, so most people call him Rama 10.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water costs around 30 baht or 1 dollar.

What was the best meal this week?:

Because Chiang Mai is in the north, it has a lot of northern Thai food. My favorite dish is a soup called khao soi (cow-soy). Khao soi is a spicy curry with egg noodles, chicken and toppings.
