The colonization of the Philippines, first by Spain and then by the United States, gave these isalnds a unique cultural flair, which is still noticeable today. It is fascinating to see how these three cultures have blended together to create something new. I hope you have enjoyed taking this journey with me, as I dug deeper into the endlessly fascinating culture and beautiful landscapes of the Philippines.

Now, I have a couple of questions for you! What did you learn? What was your favorite part? Would you visit?

For me, the people I met will be my favorite memory. I've found that the people here are completely genuine, helpful and friendly. They've made me feel welcome, whether I just met them or have been living with them for a while. There is a term for the "everyone is family" culture that exists in the Philippines: pasalubong or "souvenir." Basically, it means that if someone leaves home, they should bring a souvenir back when they come home. While I can't bring you guys a physical souvenir, I hope that the things you've learned, you'll cherish as you would a souvenir.

I hope that, through your current an future studies of travel and other cultures, you have been inspired to seek opportunities that take you farther afield than your own backyard!
