In Varanasi, the weather was milder than i nDelhi. This may be because the city is located on the Ganga River, which helps keep Varanasi cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It was refreshing to be somewhere cooler!
In Varanasi, I saw more street cows than I do in Delhi. People generally respect cows in Varanasi, so they are free to roam around town and eat whatever they can find. The cows even stop traffic sometimes because they sit in the middle of the road and no one wants to move them!
The Ganga River is a very powerful, important river, especially for death rituals. After someone dies in Varanasi, the body is cremated (burned) and the ashes are put into the Ganga. Because my Varanasi family lives on the Ganga, I can see these rituals happening from my window.
