Trains, Trains and More Trains

Introduction:

You can get from one end of the Netherlands to the other in approximately three hours. To someone in the United States, that isn't too far! But here, people will plan for days for a trip like that. If you want to get anywhere around the country, you will most likely take a train. People do have cars here, but they don't use them nearly as much as we do back home in the U.S.

How do people get around?:

People take NS trains all over the Netherlands and nearby countries. These trains are so big, sometimes even 10 or 12 train cars long, with hundreds of seats. Many trains will come through Maastricht every single day, which makes being able to go on trips super easy. The trains even go to other countries, like Belgium, France and Germany!

I should also mention bridges when talking about the Netherlands. Considering how much water there is in this country, you can see all sorts of bridges: big or small, moving or non-moving, and colorful or fancy! There are so many bridges in this small country, even Amsterdam has more bridges than almost every city in the world at over 1,750 bridges in that city alone! Many would say that the most unique architectural bridge build in the Netherlands is the Veluwemeer Aqueduct which is a bridge for the passing ships while those driving in cars go through a tunnel underneath the bridge.
