Khai Mot Daeng: Out of My Comfort Zone

Introduction:

I usually stumble upon the most interesting dishes during my community visits and homestays. I've seen dishes from bamboo shoot soup to blood pudding. Food is an easy way to test yourself and try something new while traveling. Maybe you'll fall in love and add something to your list of favorites or maybe you'll completely hate it and advise everyone you know to stay away. Most of my classmates eat just about anything. They seem to like everything and aren't scared about trying new foods. I'm almost the complete opposite. I have a list of things I will not eat, a list of things I will and a list of foods I will stay away from as long as I live. This isn't solely because I want to be difficult or I'm afraid of trying new things. In the past and while I've been abroad, there have been instances where I tried something new and my body reacted to it in a negative way, so I am just cautious based on past experiences. Nonetheless, it's really easy to try new food if you don't know what you're eating! If you ate something and it was delicious but then later you found out that it was something you'd never eat willingly, would you eat it again after finding out?

What food did I try?:

During my homestay, I tried Khai Mot Daeng. It is a delicacy in Thailand and it translates to red ant eggs (Khai = eggs, Mot = ants, Daeng = red).
