Coral Reef in Tobago

Where does it live?:

Reefs can be found in the ocean. The largest one in the world, the Great Barrier Reef, is in Australia.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

Corals need to grow in clear shallow water where sunlight can reach them. They can only grow in saltwater that is warm and clean in order to survive.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

Pollution can harm coral reefs, because when people put dirty water into the ocean, it makes the coral sick. Hurricanes have also led to the reduction of the reef in Tobago. Damage has also been caused by boat anchors and people touching the reef. There is hope to restore this magnificent reef to what it once was due to efforts by the community and government.
