Where I live in Savannah, KFC is not a very popular place to eat. But here in Trinidad, KFC is probably one of the most popular places. It actually seems to be part of their culture! In general, fried chicken is pretty popular. There are a few different chains and a lot of local places that serve fried chicken, but you can find KFC restaurants nearly everywhere. We even have one at our college campus! The appearance of the restaurants in Trinidad is very similar to those in the U.S. Everyone I have talked to here said that I had to try it because they claim it is the best in the world, so I did. I went with one of the girls that I work with in my lab, and I let her order for me. I told her to order me what she would normally eat from KFC, because I have no idea what I would even want to eat from KFC.
My friend ordered a meal called "The Pop Star Box." What it contained was a piece of fried chicken, popcorn chicken, fries, a biscuit and a drink. I also got a side of pepper sauce. It is a vibrant green color and it is so spicy! You have to be careful to not put too much on your chicken or it can make you cry from the heat. Also, the ketchup here tastes very different compared to what we have at home. The taste is not like a tomato; instead, it is very sweet. I have been told it has a pumpkin base rather than a tomato base.
