Taking the Maxi

Introduction:

The Maxi is one of my favorite ways to travel in Trinidad. These buses are very nice, with comfortable seating and air conditioning. They are always playing music, too. It is very interesting to hear what others are listening to, and sometimes the commercials on the radio can be quite hilarious. Since I don't have access to my own radio, it is the only place I can go to hear it. The people who take the Maxi are very diverse, and I never know who is going to sit next to me.

How do people get around?:

For those in Trinidad who don't have a car, they get around via Maxi. If you are headed in a general direction, like north, south, east, or west, then the Maxi is the best and cheapest way to get around. A trip to the capital is only 7 Trinidadian dollars (or $1 USD). Once you are depart from the Maxi and need to reach a destination that is further out, then you can take our equivalent of an Uber, which is called TTRideShare, or a taxi.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I enjoyed the whole Maxi experience. They are air conditioned, which is a real treat when the daily temperature nears the 90s. They also get to travel on private roads, which means that there is no traffic! The traffic here is a big issue, so taking a Maxi is a great way to avoid that.
