Pine Tree

Introduction:

Pine trees are very versatile. They come in many different sizes and can be found in habitats ranging from some of the coldest regions of the world to some of the hottest. Pine trees in Finland are spread throughout the the entire nation, and 44% of all the forests in the nation are pine forests.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

The pine tree is an evergreen, meaning that during the winter it keeps its leaves (in this case, needles). Pine trees grow on average between 50 and 150 feet, but can reach heights of up to 260 feet!  The average seven year-old tree is about four feet tall, so that means these trees can reach heights of about 65 of them stacked up! They can also live to be very old, between 100-1,000 years. There is one pine tree in Washington that is 4,600 years old!

How did I feel when I saw it?:

When I walked into a forest of these giant trees, I felt small. It was a weird feeling. No matter where I looked, they were all around me and they stretched all the way up into the sky.

Where does it live?:

Pine trees are abundant all across the world. Since they are able to range so drastically in size, they can grow almost anywhere. I even had one in my front lawn back home. There are not many trees here in Oulu since it is a city, but if you go outside of the city you can see them everywhere.
