Traveler Bio

Tervetuloa! Welcome! My name is Esteban Garcia and I am 19 years old. I was born in Nashua, New Hampshire but grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. Growing up in Raleigh was great. There were always tons of things to do like amazing concerts, nice museums and the State Fair in October. After high school, I moved to a nearby city to attend the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and study elementary education with a concentration in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

I was fortunate enough to receive a Teacher Education Fellows Scholarship from UNCG, and as part of that scholarship program we are required to study abroad. I applied for and received the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, which has helped me make this study abroad opportunity possible. After looking at all of my options, I decided that Finland would be a really good place for me because they have one of the top education systems in the world!

Apart from that, I choose Finland because of the country’s natural beauty and distinct culture. I wanted to expand my worldview and experience life through a different lens. I am really excited to share these experiences with you all and cannot wait to get started!
