Enseñando inglés en mi comunidad

I lead lessons on different elements of the English language; activities that force students to listen, comprehend, and speak in English; and small group informal conversation clubs. These strategies help students’ basic communication skills and confidence speaking in a foreign language. I always make sure to focus on what is important: communication. Although grammar and spelling are important, I believe that the most important part of language is the ability to communicate.

In my community, I follow a similar theory to school. On Saturday morning, in the town library, my partner and I lead two English classes, a basic one and an advanced one. On Thursdays, we meet for conversation club with adults, and one day of the week we meet for conversation club with students. And occasionally I take part in English events like English day celebrations, English competitions like spelling and music, and speaking at other schools. I try my best to devote time to creating a space where people feel like they can learn English. Everything I do in town is 100% free and always group based.

Though learning a language must come from within a person, I try my best to be a role model of why learning languages is beneficial, while also assisting people in their language learning journey, whether it be in the form of a class with me, conversation or just sharing my most recommended study resource document.
