Though where I live in Boyacá, Colombia, I have noticed people want to learn English to better themselves, to communicate with foreigners, to prepare themselves to travel, to gain opportunity working with tourism or international companies, and to understand English media like music, movies and shows.
Creo que mi comunidad y muchos en el mundo tienen el deseo de aprender el inglés. Yo no creo que sea necesario donde vivo. Cualquier persona puede beneficiarse de aprender inglés y otros idiomas en general por varias razones. Por ejemplo, el inglés puede abrir puertas al empleo, a ganar un sueldo más alto, al acceso a la enseñanza superior, al uso de tecnología y la capacidad de consumir el contenido de los medios.
La gente en mi comunidad quiere aprender el inglés por muchas razones que incluyen algunas de las que se creen globalmente. Sin embargo, donde vivo en Boyacá, Colombia, me he dado cuenta de que la gente quiere aprender el inglés para mejorarse, hablar con extranjeros, prepararse para viajar, ganar oportunidades de trabajar con turismo o negocios internacionales, y para entender medios en inglés como música, películas y series.
I like to believe that this desire is being addressed. I work as an English teacher in a public school and focus on a range of activities. In my community, my partner and I lead classes and conversation clubs, and take part in events.
At school I work with 6th-11th grade and specifically teach English to 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. (In Colombia 11th grade is the last year of highschool.) My role at school is to assist the English teachers in student learning.
