One of my favorite ways to explore Berlin has been through its incredible food scene. Berlin is Germany's most international city. I have enjoyed trying food from German culture as well as a unique blend of other cuisines from immigrants around the world. I have immersed myself in a diverse range of cuisines, from Syrian dishes bursting with spices to delicate Japanese sushi with a unique European flair. Each meal has been an adventure, and I've savored every bite of Berlin’s blend of cultures.
Schnitzel is a classic German dish that I have tried here. It is a thin piece of veal, breaded and fried and served with potatoes. This dish is delicious, but it puts me straight to sleep! I’ve also fallen in love with the city’s rich bakery culture—Germans are VERY good at baking bread. The bakeries here often have walls stacked to the top with huge loaves of sourdough bread. There's always a new pastry to try around every corner.
There is also a large Turkish population in Berlin, and the food here reflects that. Instead of pizza slice shops on every corner like in New York City, there is a döner kebab shop. Doner kebab is a Turkish dish made of seasoned meat stacked in a cone shape and cooked slowly on a vertical rotisserie, often served in a pita.
