Don't Drive: Take the High-speed Train!

Introduction:

China is a very big country, around the same size as the U.S. Because I want to see as much of China as possible, I have to travel. How do I get around such a big country? In the U.S., if you want to get from one big city to another, you usually drive on the highway. In China, you can drive on the highway, too, but you can also take a train.

In China, there are many different kinds of trains, but today I want to talk about a special train called the gaotie (high-speed train). These trains are much faster than regular trains. They can go as fast as 350 kilometers per hour, or 217 miles per hour. Do you know how fast that is? If you see the fastest sports car driving as fast as possible on a race track, that is about how fast these trains go. What does it feel like to travel on a train that goes so fast? Why do I like to travel on high-speed trains in China? I will share all this with you today.

How do people get around?:

In China, people get around a lot of different ways, just like in the U.S. In big cities, the subway system is very developed, and many people take the subway to work, school and to visit other places like malls, museums or parks.
