Many people also choose to walk or ride bicycles, and even if you do not own your own bicycle, you can use your phone to borrow a public bicycle for free or only around $0.15. Many people in big cities also drive mopeds or electric scooters. These are like smaller motorcycles that do not go very fast so they are safer to drive. They are also good for the environment because they use electricity instead of gasoline. Many people also drive cars, but because China has so many people living in it, driving can sometimes take a very long time since there are too many cars on the road.
So far I've told you about how people get around within a big city like Shanghai, where I live. But what about if I want to travel to another city? If I want to travel somewhere else, I do not like to drive there or take an airplaine. I like to take a high-speed train. Most people in China also take high speed trains if they want to get to one city from another very quickly. It is often cheaper and more convenient than taking a plane and much faster than driving.
When I first got on a high-speed train, I wanted to know how it would feel to travel so fast. Would I get dizzy? Would I be able to look outside? How would it feel different from traveling on a regular train?
In fact, even though high-speed trains are so fast, they are not that different from regular trains. To get on the high-speed train, I still had to go to the train station and wait for the train to arrive. The train looks like a very modern train, almost futuristic. It is thin and white, and the front of the train is very different from regular trains.
