Walking in France, Le Chemin (The Way)

Introduction:

The Way, otherwise known as the Camino de Santiago or Le Chemin in French, is a traditional pilgrimage across Europe toward Santiago, a city in Spain. This long walk has many stops along the way, and it is estimated that walking from Le Puy to Santiago takes about 3 months. As I write this, I’ve been walking with my mom and my sister for 3 days. We saw 41 cats, several dogs, at least 5 peacocks, a big rabbit, around 80 chickens, many sheep and over 500 cows so far!

What does this creature or plant look like?:

The cows here are often black and white or brown and white! Farmers here let their cows graze, or eat grass, in large groups, so walking by their pastures you’ll likely see them eating or taking a nap in the sunshine.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

Excited! While we were walking, one of the farmers moved his cows between pastures to graze on fresh grass, right on the path where we were! We had to get up on the side of the path to clear the way for the cows to pass by. They’re much taller than I expected them to be.

Where does it live?:

The cows here live on farms. They spend most of their time grazing if the weather is nice or inside the barn at night or when it’s cold.
