Palm Trees

Some were from the Caribbean, some from Africa and some from Asia! The park was divided by where the trees came from. The park also had a "sunny" and "shady" section. The sunny section was, well, sunny and is for trees that needed more sun to grow. The shady section had a cover over it so the plants would not get too much sun.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

Trees need water and sunlight to survive. I saw trees that have really cool adaptations allowing them to survive! Adaptations are changes that the trees have made so they can get the things they need. For example, I saw some trees with trunks that curved out instead of growing up in a straight line. This is because the tree needed sunlight and another tree created a shadow blocking it from the sun. The tree that had roots growing out of the ground normally grows in very dry, sandy lands. The ground there was not very stable and moves a lot, so the tree needed many more roots to stabilize it.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

The biggest danger for these trees is humans. People are cutting down trees to use the wood, fruit and oil. We need these things, but we also need to be careful about how many trees we are cutting down and which types. Many countries have laws protecting certain species of trees from being cut down. We need to be aware of how our actions affect the environment. We can plant more trees and reduce our consumption of goods. And always remember to recycle!
