Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

The main language is Korean. Korean is a very respectful language, and the way you speak to someone changes depending on how respectful you need to be. For example, you have to use honorific words towards the elderly while you can use casual speech to people that are younger than you. The most common word I use is 안녕하세요 pronounced like an nong hah seh yo. This is how you say hello and is the respectful version. But to my friends I just say 안녕 an nong which is the casual way to say hello!

What type of money is used here?:

The currency is called the won. 1 U.S dollar is about 1,500 won. Most meals at restuarnats are around 5,000-7,000 won which is about $4-$6.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water is about 500 won or 50 cents.

What was the best meal this week?:

The best meal I had this week was at a traditional Korean restuarant. They specialize in different types of soups, and I had a stew called Kimchi-jjigae. The soup is very spicy, and is made from one of Korea's most popular side dishes, kimchi. There are many different types of kimchi but it is mainly a fermented vegatable with chili peppers and salt. Kimchi-Jjigae is mainly Kimchi, chili peppers, onions and pork. Every Korean meal comes with side dishes called banchan.
