It is also customary to not wear shorts or tank tops, even if it is hot. I do this because it is the cultural norm and I do not want to stand out.

2. I try to speak in Arabic whenever I can. Speaking English in public makes you stand out and people pay more attention to you. This can be a great way to meet people that are curious about you, but it also makes it obvious that you are a tourist and that can make things harder for you.

3. Listen to everyone and never think you know better. This is very important when living in a foreign place (and at home too!). I am here to learn from the culture and the people, not to tell them what I know or how they should be. Being humble and eager to learn from others is how you will make friends and get the most out of your travel experience.
