Kids in Guatemala

Introduction:

This week, I interviewed Isela, an 11 year old girl from the town of San Cristóbal Verapaz. Isela enjoys going to school and doing her homework. I met Isela and her Poqomchí family many years ago when I first volunteered in Guatemala. The majority of the people from this town are Poqomchí. That means they speak the Poqomchí indigenous language. Isela's family also speaks Spanish and some Q'eqchí'.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

My breakfast is eggs, cereal, fried plantains, (but not all together!). Sometimes, breakfast is eggs with beans. Later for lunch I eat meat or chicken with rice or noodles, vegetables and beans. For dinner, I sometimes eat hierbas (greens), soup, or beans. The soup, is made from maggi stock, or homemade stock. For all three meals, we eat tortillas with the food.

What is your house like?:

My house is not that big. It has three bedrooms, one living room, one kitchen, one bathroom and one dining area. It also has a pila (a large outdoor sink) where the clothes get washed. My house has trees outside in the patio. The patio also has flowers, a minature house and a hammock.
