Kids in Guatemala

What chores do you have at home?:

My chores at home are sweeping, mopping the floor, washing clothes in the large sink and sometimes cooking.

What jobs do your parents have?:

My mom is already retired and works in the home. Before, she worked as a secretary. My dad works as a director of planning in a municipal building.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

I enter school at 7:15am, and I leave school at 12:20pm.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

I walk to school. It takes about three pminutes to get there. My house is three blocks from el colegio (primary school). My mom always walks me to school and back.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

I eat lunch in my house when I return from school. In school, the refacción (morning snack) is at 10am. 

My favorite food is homemade chow mein. It has noodles, güiscil (a tender, nuttier potato-like vegetable), carrots, chile peppers, celery, chicken or beef, soy sauce, and salsa inglesa (Worcestershire sauce).

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

I speak Spanish, Poqomchí, and English. 

To say hello in Spanish is ¡Hola!. In Poqomchí it is ¡Kalen!

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Some common kids names are: Amalia, Carla, Silvia, Milagros, Pedro, Andrea and Pablo.
