Traveling in Amsterdam: My Study Abroad Adventures

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

When I travel on the metro in Amsterdam, it actually feels a little like home to me. I am from New York City, and I used to take public transportation every day from middle school through high school. Because of that, riding trains feels very normal to me. Sometimes people take public transportation for granted, but I enjoy the time on the train. I like to sit back, look out the window, and watch the city as the day goes by. It gives me time to think about my goals and what I want to accomplish that day. I also like to listen to music while I ride. When I look out the window at the buildings, canals and people, it can feel very scenic almost like I am in a movie.

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Yes, many people bike because the land is mostly flat, which makes biking easier. The country also has many bike paths, so it is safe for people of all ages to ride bikes. People also use the metro and trains to travel around the city and to other cities. The metro is fast and helps many people get to work, school or different parts of Amsterdam.

Another special part of Amsterdam are the canals. Canals are waterways that run through the city. Long ago, people used boats in the canals to move goods and travel. Today, boats are still used on the canals for transportation and tours, and they are an important part of the city’s history and culture. All of these ways of getting around help people move easily while also protecting the environment and reducing traffic by using less cars.
