Traveling in Amsterdam: My Study Abroad Adventures

Introduction:

To get to my classes in Amsterdam, I take a tram from where I live in Amsterdam West on Jan Van Galenstraat to a place called Nieuwmarkt within the center of the city. The tram ride usually takes about 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the day and whether the trains are running on time.

People in the Netherlands also use something called a sprinter train to travel between different cities in the country. It is a fast and easy way to get around. Another type of train is the Eurostar. I used the Eurostar when I traveled to France and Belgium. In Europe, many countries are very close together, kind of like states in the United States. Because they are so close, people often travel from one country to another by train, and it is very common.

How do people get around?:

In the Netherlands, many people get around by bike. You can see people of all ages riding bikes, from kids to grandparents. Biking is one of the easiest and most popular ways to travel. Another way people get around is by using the metro system, which includes trains. People can also ride the tram (bus)  which travels through the city and stops at many places
