One of my favorite things about being in Rome is exploring a new city. Living in Philadelphia, there are plenty of landmarks around like the famous art musuem or the beautiful City Hall building, but Rome is just different. There are so many piazzas, monuments and ancient sites that it makes navigating around much easier. For example, I know that if I want to take the bus to go toward the beach, I need to get off at the bus stop where I can see a small pyramid! It's wonderful to live somewhere that has so many spaces to hang out outside such as the squares and parks.
Of course, I will miss the food too. My friend and I just found a gelato shop that is so good, and it's right on our walk home from school! Lately, my new favorite flavor is orange toasted almond, which may sound a little strange, but it tastes so good!
Since coming to Rome, I have learned so much about its history both here and across the Mediterranean region. I have especially enjoyed learning how to recognize the names of different Roman Emperors and know who was responsible for building which landmarks. For example, Emperor Vespasian was the first emperor of the Flavian Dynasty, and he is the one who ordered work to start on the Colosseum.
