Sophia, like many students, said she goes to cram school after school. While this part of Taiwanese student culture is unfamiliar to most Americans, many of the students' other favorite after-school activities, sports and games are very similar to what kids enjoy in the U.S.! Sophia, Gaby and Lydia all like to play video games. Andy likes to play with his iPad, and Luca likes to play a mobile game called ‘Cookie Run.’ Selena likes to play basketball. Basketball is probably the most popular sport among all my students! Zoey likes to play with her friends and dance. Sherry said she likes to sleep, which I also think is a great choice after a long day of school.
Gaby and Sherry’s favorite famous person is RY -- she’s a Taiwanese YouTuber who mostly makes gaming videos. Sophia and Zoey love BLACKPINK, an ultra-popular South Korean girl group, and Zoey’s favorite members are Lisa and Jenny. Lydia’s favorite is Zhao Lusi, a Chinese actress who has been in a lot of romance movies.
Sherry says she listens to peaceful music. Selena listens to classical while Zoey listens to pop (knowing Zoey, I’m guessing K-Pop, especially!) Sophia and Andy listen to a lot of Japanese music, most likely J-Pop. Lydia likes the Taiwanese singer Rainie Yang. Gaby said she likes the children’s song 'Liǎng zhī lǎohǔ' (两只老虎; pronounced lee - ah - ng - jih - l - ow - hoo), which is called ‘Two Tigers’ in English. Look it up and see if you recognize the tune!
