Our News

perfect to have after a long hike in the jungle.

What music did I listen to this week?:

Recently, I have been listening to a genere of music called punta. This type of music also comes with its own special type of dance, both of which originate with the Garifuna tribes of Belize, Honduras and Guatemala. The music is fast-paced with a good drum beat, and it makes you want to move your hips! My favorite song right now is “Ouchaha” by Punta Rebels.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

In Palenque, we took a van about 45 minutes out from the city to visit a nature preserve called the Waterfalls of Roberto Barrios. Here you could explore seven or more waterfall by swimming around and crawling behind them. Near the end of our trip, I was swimming around when I found a set of ropes attached to a tree at the top of the waterfall, and of course, I scaled up the side like Spiderman!

What did I read this week?:

This week I started reading a memoir (a more informal autobiography) about the American female comic, Jenny Lawson, called Let’s Pretend this Never Happened. While I am always eager to be practicing my Spanish, sometimes it is nice to take a break and have a laugh in English, too.

As a side note, when we want to text or type a laugh in English, we use "haha", but in Spanish, the "h" sound is actually associated more with the letter "j", so to text a laugh in Spanish, you write "jaja"!
