By now, you all are used to hearing from me about my life on the bay, next to the ocean, at sea level. If we were to try to go up higher, for example by climbing a mountain, we would be increasing our elevation, or altitude. Altitude is usually measured starting at the sea, with zero, and it goes up from there. Chetumal and New York City both have an elevation of about 33 feet, and the city where I went last week, Palenque, has an elevation of 200 feet. Being that high in the mountains changed a few things, especially with the weather, because it rained a lot more than in Chetumal, but the temperature was definitely just as hot!
There were animals galore to see in Palenque, from creepy-crawlers in the mud to rainbow-streaked birds in the sky. Palenque is a city located in the jungle of Chiapas, México, and because of this, we were able to see many tropical mammals, insects and reptiles.
