En Route, Traveling in Montpellier!

Introduction:

Montpellier offers a lot of different public transportation options as well as space to drive or walk. Transportation is made simple here and it is easy to get around using it.

How do people get around?:

Here, people take the tram, which is like an above ground metro system that can get you from point A to point B with stops a long the way. If you need to get somewhere else the tram doesn't go, you can use your tram tickets to rent bikes or take the bus. Biking is something a lot of people do here, and they're so good at it! A healthy person biking can go just as fast as a car and weave through people on the sidewalk! Another mode of transportation is by car. It's not as common, but Montpellier is a small enough city that you still see people driving around. These are some quick transportation options, but there's always traveling the old fashioned way... on foot! I walk thirty minutes to class everyday, and it really keeps me in shape. No wonder French people are so thin after all that bread: they walk a ton!

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

When I first got on the tram, I didn't know how to buy a ticket or if I even had to. I felt embarassed and was worried I looked like an outsider. During one trip, the conductors got on and began asking everyone for their tickets.
