My friends and I got pulled off and explained to, in French, that we could get fined for not having a ticket. Luckily, one of my newer friends had just bought some tickets, so she covered for us, and we were able to get by. From there on out, I made sure I had a ticket!
Transportation here is reflected in the culture, because the French value staying healthy more and looking out for the environment. Biking and walking is more common than taking the tram or driving. French people will walk an hour before they decide to take public transportation. It's also common to see people biking in their suits on the way to work. I think the French people use their means of commute as ways to stay in shape.
