City, Sea, Mountains, Oh My!

Introduction:

Montpellier is a city in the south of France. There's the beach, the city, suburbs and mountains. The summer is incredibly hot, and in the winter time, the temperature does not drop below fifty, unless it's night time. In a way, the city's temperature is much like Virginia in the fall when the mornings are often cold but the afternoons are blazing hot. If you like warmth and versatility, this city is perfect for you.

What makes this environment special or different?:

The unique thing about Montpellier is that it is a city, but the beach is nearby, and in the opposite direction you have mountains. People here are attracted to the city to live, but they gravitate to the countryside on the weekends, taking a trip to the beach or hiking the mountains. The city itself is full of greenery, but if you're looking to get more in touch with nature, there are plenty of options a short bike ride, tram ride or car ride away.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

Closer to the mountains are where most of the vineyards and olive plantations are located. While olives and wine are not necessary for life, they are necessary for farmers here to survive, as this is how these people make their money. The fertile land allows for fruits and vegtables to be grown on the outskirts of the city.
