Did you know that in Europe, you can hop on a bus or train and be in a brand new country in just a few hours? Pretty cool, right? In Italy, one of the most popular ways to get around is by public bus, and I got to experience it for the very first time during my first few days abroad.
Buses are like the city’s helpers, carrying people wherever they need to go. To ride one, you need a ticket. You can grab one at a shop around the city (called a tabacchi or edicola) or even buy it right on the bus. Buying early saves money, so you get bonus points if you plan ahead!
Here’s how it works:
Find your stop and check the schedule.
When the bus is rolling up, wave so the driver knows to stop for you.
Hop on and scan your ticket at the red machine or show it to the driver.
Find a seat, or, if it’s crowded, hold onto the bars tight!
If someone older or pregnant needs a seat, it’s polite to let them have yours.
