Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

People in Croatia speak Hrvatski (pronounced her-vhat-skee). Some also speak Bosnian and Serbian, which are similar to their native language. In bigger cities, many people also speak English, Italian and German because of tourism.

What type of money is used here?:

Croatia uses the euro, just like Italy. That’s because both countries are part of the European Union, which is kind of like the United States. Instead of states, the E.U. is made up of countries that work together and share currencies, laws and even the same emergency number.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle costs about one euro in Croatia, or about $1.20 in U.S.D.

What was the best meal this week?:

The food in Croatia was delicious! My favorite dish was Ćevapi, tiny sausages made from beef. You can eat them in bread called lepinja or on a plate. They’re usually served with onions, cream cheese and a tasty red pepper sauce called ajvar. Yum!

What music did I listen to this week?:

Lots of places in Europe listen to American music. Our boat guides played us their favorite songs, including "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira and "Californication" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
