Spanish is the main language spoken here. I get to practice my Spanish every day and I am slowly becoming more comfortable in conversation. Some people here speak English, but I always ask to speak Spanish, even if I need an extra second to understand a sentence or question.
Asturiano, the language native to this province, is also spoken here. Many Asturians (people living in this area) are proud of their regional language and culture. Some street signs include both Spanish and Asturian spellings of words. In everyday life, few people speak fully in Asturiano. Instead, many people mix the occasional Asturian word into their Spanish sentences.
Like other countries in the European Union, Spain uses the euro. The conversion rate between euros and American dollars changes frequently, but one euro is usually a little more than a dollar.
A bottle of water costs around 1.50 euros, which is a little less than $2!
