Little Tokyo in Big Seoul

Introduction:

Food is an important part of any country's culture. You can find different cuisines in Seoul such as pasta, sushi,Thai, American, and even modern takes on traditional Korean food.

What food did I try?:

I tried the Korean-style katsu (chicken in panko crumbs) called 돈까스, or donkkaseu. The donkkaseu is a Korean take on the Japanese katsu, which is, in turn, a take on German schnitzel! Isn’t that amazing? You can find donkkaseu anywhere! And it is cheap, too! The average price for a katsu is ₩6,000, or $6.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

Back home in Hawaii, we have a more Japanese style katsu. Because I am used to seeing it presented in a different way, I was nervous to try the katsu here. In Korea, they use a different breading style and sauce that comes with the katsu. While the sauce looks spicy, it is sweet! There were many different types of katso here. You can order anything from shrimp donkkaseu to cheese donkkaseu!

How is the food prepared?:

To prepare a donkkaseu, the first step is to pound a pork cutlet flat. Next, coat the cutlet in a batter of egg, breadcrumbs, and flour. Once that is finished, fry the cutlet on each side for one minute.
