Arriving in the Warm Heart of Africa

Many of them are doctors who are here to treat people or to teach local doctors. There are also three pharmacists. Most of us are from America because UNC Project is an American organization. It is associated with the University of North Carolina. Some of the visitors are from other countries, such as Brazil, Germany, and Kenya.

We have two dogs at the guest house. They are supposed to be guard dogs, but they seem to sleep more than they guard! They are very cute. One is named Jelly Bean and the other is named Joe.

Living in the guest house is very fun because of all the friends around. There are some differences in life here. The electricity sometimes goes out and we have to use flashlights at night. Once, the water stopped, but luckily only for two hours. We have to hang out laundry out to dry. There is no AC. I am glad my room has a fan to keep cool!

I can walk to my office from where I live. The sun sets at 5:30 pm. Sometimes, I set pretty sunsets as I walk home. I really like my office. I have a banner over my desk that is made from the local fabric, which is called Chitenje. Outside of my office, there is a soccer field where people play soccer on weekends. Sometimes, they play after work too! All of the players are adults. Soccer is called football here and it is very popular.
