Desert To The Woods: The Atlas Mountain Range

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

One part of the environment that helps people survive is the availability of natural water sources such as wells. The locals have dug wells from where they retrieve their water. It is very different than how we live in America. I really came to realize how easy it is to live in America with the availability of running water. While I was visiting a local village, the children featured in one of my photographs showed me where they get the water to cook and clean. To get to the well, you have to walk up a very slippery mud hill, and after you've retrieved the water, you have to walk with big buckets back to your house. They had to do this every day to have the water for daily activities. It is important to understand that without the environment providing such things as natural wells, these people would not be able to survive in the area in which they've chosen to live and have called home for generations.

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

Some challenges that people face while living in this environment are that climate change and pollution have made it harder to find good sources of food and water without people getting sick. When the locals showed me where they get their daily water, I could see evidence of pollution such as candy wrappers and various plastics in the water which is not good for people's health. It is extremely important to keep the water sources clean from pollution because if it becomes polluted, then there is no way of fixing the problem. One solution would be to have to find a new water source that isn't polluted.
