Journal Entry:

Hello everyone! My name is Sean Funcheon, and I am a recent graduate of the University of California Berkeley. I am from San Lorenzo, California, a small town located in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area. Growing up, I never had the opportunity to travel internationally, and it has been something that I wanted to accomplish for myself for a very long time. So when I had the opportunity to study abroad and have my school pay for it, I was all in!

I decided that I wanted to study in an Arabic speaking country because I wanted to experience what it was like to be in a foreign country where I would speak a new language. I picked Arabic because it is so different from English. I had never studied the Arabic language. I was very intimidated by the Arabic alphabet, but I realized that If I tried my hardest and studied hard, then I would be able to learn it. It has not easy, but it's fun and rewarding.

The second reason that I picked an Arabic speaking country relates to my future career goals. I want to become a United States diplomat and work for a U.S. embassy abroad.
