Sean's Autobiography Journal

Diplomats do a lot of things; they help Americans when traveling abroad, they create relationships with people in the country where they are working and they try to make the world a better place through communication. Being a diplomat is a dream of mine because it would allow me to use my communication skills to help create a better understanding between countries. What I have realized while I have been abroad is that people are not as different as we think, we all have goals and dreams and want to create the best lives for ourselves and our families. This realization only came when I was meeting others abroad, and it has encouraged me to pursue my dream of becoming a diplomat.

The next step in my journey to become a diplomat is to join the Peace Corps. The Peace Corps is a federal agency that places U.S. citizens in foreign countries to volunteer on projects. These projects include teaching English, helping with agriculture, helping with medicine and many others. I am currently in the process of applying to come back to Morroco so that I can volunteer in youth development where I can use my communication skills to help develop youth centers in a remote part of the country. I have fallen in love with being abroad because it allows me to view the world through a different lens and see things as I have never seen them before. I look forward to coming back to Morocco and really assimilating into the culture!

Now that I have left my small CA town, I realize that the world is a giant place, but I have also realized that people want similar things. We are different, yes, but that difference is not as big as you think. I am having a wonderful time studying in Morocco, and I love all of the people that I am meeting.
