Meet My Host Sister, Rebeca!

To say hello in Portuguese, you can say, "Olá!" or you can say, "Oi!"

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

My name, Rebeca, is pretty common here. Ana and Maria are two other common girls names. Miguel and Pedro are two common boys names, but some boys have more uncommon names like Vinicius.

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

I study Portuguese, English, math, history and gym.

What is your homework like?:

Sometimes I have homework, and sometimes I don't. I don't have Portuguese and English class every day, so I only have homework in those classes once or twice a week. I have a group project on May 30. We are going to present in school. Lots of my homework is copying what the teacher shows us. If I don't copy everything in class, I have to borrow my friend's notebook to finish writing everything down. Sometimes, I have to answer questions about my family or community for my homework. My mom usually helps me with that.

What do you like to do after school? Do you have a favorite sport or game?:

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I have a gymnastics class at the park. It's really fun! I'm learning to do lots of cool steps and tricks. Last week, I started going to a special arts school in the afternoon. They have music classes, dance classes, drawing classes, robotics, and lots of other amazing things. I had fun painting, but I'm excited to try robotics too.

What kinds of music do you listen to?:

I like pop music from a kids show called Chiquititas (Little Ones), about kids who live together in an orphanage.
