Ecuador's Unique Environment

Introduction:

Ecuador is filled with natural beauty whereever you go. Natural resources stem from the Andes Mountains, but these are unfortunately being threatened by climate change. It is up to us to help fight these changes!

What makes this environment special or different?:

Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is located in the Andes, which are characterized by high elevation and scattered, snowcapped mountains. 

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

The Andes of Ecuador is a perfect source for water, especially from the Cotopaxi Volcano. In addition, the conditions in the Andes makes it a perfect place to cultivate potatoes, faba beans and barley. Many people cultivate these products as a source of income.

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

However, due to climate change, Quito's weather reaches high extremes on both ends of the spectrum. Mornings are frigid and afternoons are scorching hot. Ice caps on the volcanoes are melting and such extreme temperatures cause poor crop growth.

How have people been adapting to this environment?:

People are realizing that climate change is a serious issue that needs to be dealt with.
