Here in Ecuador people mainly speak Spanish. However, another language spoken here is Kichwa. This language is mainly spoken by indigenous people (inidividuals who are native to an area). What type of money is used here?:

Currently in Ecuador we use U.S. dollars. Before Ecuador switched to dollars, their currency was called sucre. One dollar was the equivalent of 25,000 sucres.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

Typically a bottle of water costs about $1.00. However, I carry my handy dandy water bottle where ever I go!

What was the best meal this week?:

This week I visted my host mom's parents. They made an "asado," or their version of American barbeque. They had several types of sausages and meats cooked on a charcoal grill. As side dishes they had potatoes, choclo (corn made of large kernels), and habas (which look like large peas). The meat melted in my mouth and the side dishes were just as delicious!

What music did I listen to this week?:

This week I happened to listen to several different Spanish nursery rhymes. Here in Ecuador they call it canciones de la granja. I also attended a Zumba class with my students.
